HAIL App Opt-In Policy

At HAIL, we value your privacy and are committed to providing a secure, user-friendly experience. To ensure that your participation in the app is fully voluntary and informed, we have developed this Opt-In Policy, which outlines the actions and permissions we request from you and how we handle your information.

By using the HAIL app, you acknowledge that you have reviewed and consented to the following:

1. Opt-In to Receive Notifications

To effectively use HAIL, you must opt-in to receive notifications. These notifications are categorized by urgency to ensure that you receive the appropriate message at the right time. The app will ask for your permission to send notifications based on the following tiers:

Green Notification: "Call me when you can"
Yellow Notification: "Call me as soon as you can"
Red Notification: "Come to my location right away" (with GPS location)

By opting in, you allow the app to send these notifications to your device. You can manage your notification preferences and opt-out at any time within the app's settings.

2. Opt-In to Share Your GPS Location

To send Red Notifications (emergency alerts) or Check-In updates to your pre-determined contacts, HAIL will request access to your GPS location. By opting in, you allow the app to access your device's location to send alerts and share your location with selected contacts.

GPS Access: This will allow you to send your location in emergency notifications and Check-In alerts.
Location Privacy: We will only share your GPS location when you trigger an emergency notification or choose to check-in with your designated contacts.

You may revoke location access at any time via your device’s settings or within the app.

3. Opt-In to Add Contacts

As a part of HAIL’s functionality, you will be able to add emergency or non-emergency contacts to your in-app network.

Contact Requests: When you add someone as a contact, they will receive an SMS message inviting them to join the app and become a part of your contact list.
Manual Contact Approval: The recipient of the contact request must explicitly opt-in to accept the invitation to be added to your network. You may not send requests to people who have not consented to be added.

You have control over who can request to be added as your contact, and you can modify or remove contacts at any time.

4. Opt-In to Emergency Notifications

You have the option to allow your contacts to send you emergency or non-emergency notifications. By opting in, you agree to receive tiered notifications (Green, Yellow, or Red) from the contacts you add. You can manage and opt-out of these notifications at any time in your preferences.

5. Opt-In to Data Collection and Analytics

To improve the HAIL app and provide you with a better experience, we may collect data regarding your usage of the app, including but not limited to the features you use, the frequency of usage, and performance data.

By opting in, you consent to the collection and analysis of this data. You can choose to opt-out of data collection at any time within the app settings. We respect your right to privacy and ensure that all data is anonymized and used only to improve app functionality.

6. Consent to Receive SMS Invitations

If you are invited to join the HAIL app by someone in your contacts, you will receive an SMS invitation. You must opt-in to accept the invitation by downloading the app and becoming a user.

Opt-In to Receive SMS: If you do not wish to receive SMS invitations, you may opt-out by not responding to the invitation or by blocking the sender.

7. Opt-In to Emergency/Non-Emergency Check-In

When using the Check-In feature, you have the ability to opt-in to share your GPS location and send a simple message ("I'm ok") to a pre-selected contact. By enabling this feature, you are opting in to send updates to your emergency contacts when you are in a potentially unsafe or distressing situation.

8. Managing Your Permissions and Opt-Out

At any time, you can review and update your preferences, including opting out of any of the features mentioned above. You can access the settings menu to make changes to:

Notification preferences (including Green, Yellow, and Red notifications)
Location-sharing settings
Data collection preferences
Contact management and opt-out of receiving SMS invitations

9. Your Privacy Rights

You have the right to:

Access, modify, or delete your personal data stored in the app.
Withdraw your consent for notifications, location sharing, and data collection at any time.
Opt-out of receiving SMS invitations or emergency notifications.
